seeking an understanding

seeking an understanding of life, encaustic mixed media, 8×8 inches

Got a few hours in the studio this morning and finished up this mixed media piece I started when I was pregnant. I was working on a series exploring my pregnancy, but then I had to stop. These three months since Noah was born I wasn’t sure I would be able to return to this series. I wan’t sure if I was ready emotionally. The end of the pregnancy was very difficult and I just couldn’t go back there.

But when I got to the studio today and was ready to start something new, I somehow found myself returning to the subject matter. Maybe this is something that I need to work through, through my artwork. Just the fact that I couldn’t help myself but return to the series has already revealed to me that I need to do this.

  1. This piece is so beautiful; haunting, lyrical, like all of your work. Really lovely.

I’m so glad you’re enjoying my sketches, and I’m enjoying the process so much! And yes, I would LOVE to see you when I get settled in Portland. We’ll keep in touch and work something out.
