on my studio table

So, last week I was on the mend and so looking forward to getting back into the swing of things in my studio….then both kids came down with strep! Poor things. I hate seeing them feeling so sick. And my studio was abandoned for another week. I was able to get in on Friday and a little bit this weekend. Hoping this is the end of sickness in my house!

Just me, the birds, and the sound of my heat gun in the studio from 5 - 7 am this Monday morning. Good way to start the week. And necessary- have to get some paintings done.

I almost forgot, I got up before the sun rose Monday morning, before I knew my kids had strep, to get 2 hours in. There is something powerful about the early morning creative energy. I am not a morning person, but I think I may just become one. 5 am- 7 am painting. The above photo is a detail of a painting I worked on that early morning.

I’ve been going through my photo files and sorting through all the photos that I have been meaning to use for paintings. It’s nice to go back through my images and remember the moment when I was taking the shot. I’m looking forward to seeing where I take the images next with my paintings.

  1. I really enjoy the detail pictures–their simplicity–the first one, especially. Lots of heart in these images…(and strep is really awful!) Work those early hours!

    1. Thanks again for stopping by James. yes, the strep was awful, but thankfully everyone is healthy. I’m liking the early hours! Who knew?

  2. love these pieces. I enjoy all your work. I am still having difficulty incorporating my pics into my acrylic paintings. ( i have stayed away from encaustic due to fumes etc). I will get it someday.
    Thanks for sharing and inspiring.

    1. Thanks so much Trish. When i first started painting and using my photos in my work, I worked in acrylic. One of the ways I think that helps to incorporate photos into a painting is to create gel transfers using gel medium. I like Golden product best.
