perfical sense studio: intro to encaustic workshop

paints

So it looks like 2011 is the year for me to step out of the solitude of my studio and share the things I have learned working in mixed media and encaustic. In a previous post I announced that I will be teaching a mixed media and encaustic workshop at Encausticamp in Oregon in July. I am also currently working on a couple of encaustic articles for a future issue of Somerset Workshop Magazine. I never realized how much planning goes into creating a stepped-out article! Totally something new for me as I generally don’t plan a piece, but rather let it develop organically. But as with all things different, it’s been a good learning experience.

But for those of you who are local to the Chicagoland area and are curious about working in encaustic, I will be teaching a 3-hour workshop next month in Evanston, the suburb right north of Chicago.

Cindy Jevon, a fellow FusedChicago member, has a wonderful studio/gallery in Evanston and she and I hatched the idea of hosting intimate encaustic workshops in her space, which is fantastically called Perfical Sense Studio.

Here are the details:

Introduction to Encaustic & Mixed Media
Saturday, February 26, 9:30 – 12:30

Encaustic painting is a method which uses pigments melted with wax and fused to the painting surface with heat. It is the perfect partner for a wide variety of mixed media techniques. This workshop will cover the basics of painting in encaustics with a focus on introducing collage and mixed media techniques into your work. Learn encaustic techniques such as fusing, layering, embedding, and image transfers.

Class Fees: $80 includes all materials

Come join me, it’ll be fun! But hurry as space is limited- the class size will be 5 students max. So get in touch with Cindy at Perfical Sense Studio and save yourself a spot.
