Fresh eggs

Wednesday and Thursday I attended Patricia Seggebruch’s workshop on encaustics. Her workshop is actually 3 days long, but I could only do two days. Being able to attend was actually my mother’s day present from my husband. He took care of Noah and had some good daddy-son bonding time while I was gone each day. The workshops were from 10am-4pm with the option of staying longer and working. But I rushed home each day, of course!

I highly recommend this workshop to anyone who is interested in learning more about encaustics. We had demos in the morning and after lunch. And the rest of the time was spent working and exploring at your own pace with Patricia on hand to assist whenever you needed. I’ve only learned about encaustics from my own explorations and from 2 one-hour free demos at Daniel Smiths. I wanted to fill in the gaps and learn from someone whose work I admire. Patiricia’s demo was the first one I ever went to at Daniel Smith’s and I knew just from that one-hour that I would learn so much from a 2-day workshop.

Not only did I get the gaps filled in, but I learned some new techniques and met some really wonderful women. There were four of us total who attended, which created a very comfortable and intimate gathering. It was amazing how we all created such different pieces. I love that.

Patiricia’s workshop felt like a retreat. It was so peaceful at her home. And while we worked I could hear her chickens laying their eggs and her goats doing whatever goats do. The eggs below were a departing gift from Patricia and her chickens. I’ve never eaten farm fresh eggs before until this morning. They were really good. I had heard that fresh eggs are so different in taste and quality than from the ones you buy in the grocery store. And now I know, they are.

I have a lot of cleaning up to do and catching up at home today, but I hope to post some of experiments here soon.

  1. Oooooh! I’m jealous – 2 whole days with Patricia!! Sounds like you had a blast and learned a lot – nothing better than that!
