I’ve been so busy with getting everything ready at home for the baby’s arrival and tying up loose ends for business purposes, that I haven’t had much time for computer time. But here I am, hello!

A few weeks ago I mentioned reworking old paintings and this is one of them. The original painting was actually not old, I created it last year. You can see it here. I was never fully satisfied with it, I can’t really tell you why, it was just a feeling.

And it wouldn’t leave me alone. It was like an itch in a place on your back that you can’t reach.

When I first started reworking it, I tried to maintain the same light palette, but as you can see, I departed from that. I am much happier with this now.

The itch has been scratched.

Some of the pictures are truly mysterious to me.. which is why I so often say publicly that I don’t know or don’t care what they’re really about. And yet I can also say that the paintings are prayers.~ Susan Rothenberg

Remember when I announced that I had one my paintings used for an album cover? Well, James Shipp, the musician, sent me one of the cds and it was so exciting to open it up and see my work as part of this album. You can listen to some of the tracks in the Listen section. I really like the last track on there. Isn’t her voice beautiful?

You can also buy the cd at CDBaby.com.

  1. Hi Bridgette, I really love this reworked piece! I know just what you mean about wanting to scratch an artistic itch 🙂 once done, it’s so satisfying 🙂
Congratulations again on the album cover – yes, she does have a beautiful voice, and I can understand why your artwork was chosen to accompany the music – as a visual reflection of music, your works are a wonderful fit.

  2. Bridgette your work is amazing.
The CD cover is wonderful, I have been noticing that CD covers are becoming more artistic, not just pictures of the band/singer.

Yes, her voice and the music is beautiful – I just purchased one!!

I know you are excited and anxious for the arrival of your new little one.

    Blessings to you all!

  3. I rework and cover up paintings all the time- glad to know others do to– it is very nice– like the idea of ‘fragile’… and congrats on the CD cover

  4. Those changes made such a huge difference. This is a wonderful piece. It resonated with me at first glance. And when I saw the name, it meant even more — I’ve been feeling quite fragile lately.

  5. I prefer the value plan of your new piece. Great piece-looks Irish to me.

Speaking of Irish, Shipp’s music sounds Irish. Very nice. I love that kind of sound and the album cover with your art looks AWESOME!

  6. I agree with Seth. I like them both. Both have different feels. The first is much softer while the second, re-worked one seems more mysterious. I love them both though. The good thing is that you have a photo of the first even though it is covered up and changed. You can always print a copy. Congrats on the album cover. That is great!

  7. So nice to see your work. I admire painters and bookmakers and candlestick makers…wishing to have time someday to depart from words to some other art form.

Sigh. There are simply not enough creative hours in a day, are there?

  8. beautiful work…espec. love “creating home”…& just love your profile description/your ponderings…ALL LOVELY. a gift to find your blog. swirling soft colors your way….

  9. I can see why you weren’t satisfied with the other version. Although it is just fine, it does seem ‘lonely’ in that it still needed ‘something’. Good choice on direction! I don’t know if I could’ve arrived there myself, but yes, the itch has been scratched!
And, what a COOL album cover. I may just have to order that album for myself!

  10. Hi Bridgette! I hope you are well and everything is good with you and baby to come! Congratulations on the album cover, that’s fantastic news! The painting is beautiful as always.

  11. your encaustics amaze me .. enjoy the birth of your new baby .. and thankyou for sharing your journey .. it is always a pleasure to travel along with you for a while ..
