24: What the Crow Knows

  • November 18, 2025

What does the Crow know? Well, it knows that I needed to rest for the past two weeks. I got a little sick after the opening of the show on November 7th and have been laying low while I also catch up on the non-art side of things of life. It’s only today that I have started to feel more normal. Although not 100%, but getting there.

Because I was doing a daily collage challenge this past summer, I actually didn’t post about them here on my blog as is my usual way of operating. It is too difficult to keep up with both! I thought I would post some of them, especially the ones that are currently in Touch the Earth show that is at Artists & Makers Studios in Rockville, MD.

I never intended to show these daily collages. The challenge was a way for me to just make without the intention of showing them. Take the pressure off. But after I made the 50, I felt like they were such an important part of the process of getting grounded during a time where it was so hard to concentrate in the studio. An image, various papers, scissors, and glue. I ended up really loving making these collages. It felt good seeing the pile grow as the summer days went by.

The crow image is from a drawing I did and then I printed it on rice paper and dipped into wax, which made it transparent and I could layer on top of other paper. I have a small collection of old books that I salvaged from thrift stores and estate sales that I pull pages from. Some of these scraps were from an old typewriting lesson manual.

Because I began my creative journey some 2o plus years ago making collages measureing 8×6 inches for blank journals, making these collages were like slipping into a pair of really well worm and well loved shoes. Or like eating a favorite childhood food. It just feels like home.

For the show I selected six of my favorite collages and matted and framed them to hang in a hallway outside of the main gallery room. This one was number 24 out of 50.

I made a page in my online shop of the work that I included in Touch the Earth. No additional shipping/handling. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for taking a look!
