all truth is beautiful

  • October 18, 2006

This is the journal that I made for myself. I can’t wait to start this new journal. I’m almost done with my last one. I can’t believe it’s almost full. I love the feel of it, the worn edges, the crumpled pages, things sticking out the edges. But it is definitely time to move on to a new one.

The image that I used is not one of my photographs which is why this is for personal use. I use my personal photographs or drawings for my art work. But this image has been in my possession for a while now and I wanted to use it for my new journal.

all truth is beautiful, mixed media, 8×6 inches

The words read:all truth is beautiful

Cheesecloth, thread, various papers, beeswax

I got that phrase from that book on tape on Vincent Van Gogh I listened to a while back. It has stayed with me. We tend to gloss over the truth because sometimes it is too much. Too harsh. Who wants to look at reality? But that statement almost admonishes us to find the beauty in truth, in reality, in what is sometimes is overlooked.

  1. Thanks Jess. 🙂

Thank you too Sheri. I agree with you. When I was working on it I thought, well, actually not all truth is beautiful. I can think of plenty of truths in this world that are pretty horrifying. But then I thought the opposite- covering up, lying, denying the truth is what is ugly.

Thanks again for your comments! I appreciate it. 🙂

  2. Bridgette – Yes it is true that the opposite is in fact ugly and being truthful in that sense would certainly be beautiful. What I meant was being truthful is the RIGHT thing to do and it isn’t always a beautiful thing and covering up and lying is a bad thing even if it may appear to be a beautiful thing at the time. My way of thinking of it is different but, I certainly see what you are saying and it gets a simple point across to people who read it. This was fun – thanks ! 🙂

  3. This is a beautiful journal book! I am an addict of journals too, not that I write them, but that I love the feel and texture of journal books.

    Your works are lovely!
