Attunement: the process of bringing oneself into harmony, alignment, or deep emotional resonance with another person, oneself, or an environment. It involves active, empathetic listening and mirroring to foster connection, safety, and understanding.
The opening reception for “Duality of Being” at Gallery Blue Door was this past Saturday, and it was really wonderful. I am so appreciative of everyone who took time out of their Saturday to stop by and to Gallery Blue Door for putting on a warm and welcoming reception. Also for finding homes for some of my paintings! The exhibit will be up until April 18th, and online the paintings can be viewed here. If you are local and want to see the exhibit, check the website for hours. Please feel free to get in touch with myself or the gallery if you have any questions.
Even though the show about integrating duality and finding reciprocity in the world around us, these themes are still on my mind. And probably will be for…always. I had been working on this piece before I dropped off my paintings at the gallery. But I knew it needed more time than I had before the show. Part of the reason is that this is a large encaustic piece for me. It measures 30×30 inches. This past year has seen me painting larger and I enjoy it. So much more surface to explore.
It does take up a lot more wax though. I just made a huge batch of encaustic medium. Double than what I normally make because this painting took up a lot of medium and I was very close to running out. Although I have been thinking about switching to acrylics for a little bit once I finish up some upcoming deadlines.
I have been working on some small pieces while working on this as I have two things coming up that both call for smaller works. But I am thinking that this next year ahead will see more paintings on the larger side. Attunement was inspired by this painting, which measures 12×12 inches. When I made it back in 2024, I made a mental note that I wanted to make this again but on a larger scale. So glad I was able to follow through.
