Between Worlds is an encaustic mixed media painting by Bridgette Guerzon Mills
Bridgette Guerzon Mills | Between Worlds, encaustic mixed media including salvaged metal, 14×11 inches

When I look at this painting now, it reminds me to trust my gut. It went through a lot of transformation. A lot of indecision. Or maybe not indecision, but a willingness to play and experiment. Either way, a lot of painting over and lots of layers.

The rectangular metal piece reminds me of a portal.

Because birds are creatures of the sky and the earth, they often are seen as messengers between the spirit world and the earth world. They speak, we listen. But what are they saying? Songs of worship, praising the skies and the grains and the abundance of the earth? Or maybe just greetings. Or what if they are screaming at us to get out act together? I remember once an American Robin looking at me with a critical eye.

I like watching the crows fly above. Often in groups. They seem to have a purpose. The crows seem to know more than they are letting on.
