I have a bird show coming up this fall at Lark and Key Gallery. I mostly have had all the pieces set for this show. But then this week I decided to tweak one of the pieces, which then ended up turning into an entirely new piece! Which is a good thing. I really enjoyed working on this one. The bottom part was actually inspired by a wall in an old old house that had peeling wall paper and plaster and for some reason pencil scribbles on the walls. I always wanted to make a painting of that wall photo that I took. Maybe one day, I’ll finally do it. Big and abstract.
But for this one, I was working on my final bird pieces for the show, and so I added the image of the crow taking flight off of a tree branch. When my kids were young I used to read them a beautifully illustrated book about birds. And there was a two page spread that had colorful scribbles across the two pages that posed the question- what would it look like if the birds painted the skies with their flight patterns? I always loved that two page spread. And in my mind’s eye I remember their little index fingers tracing the lines.
