Interwoven Worlds

Interwoven Worlds is an assemblage piece by Bridgette Guerzon Mills
Interwoven Worlds, encaustic, hornet nest, fabric, thread, wood, 9 x 5 1/2 x 1 5/8 inches

This piece was mostly completed back in March and I hung it up on my studio wall. I knew it wasn’t done, but I wasn’t sure how to finish and I had to turn my attention to other work. I have a deadline coming up that I was thinking this piece would fit in, so I had to finish it. I often need a deadline for a final push. I finished it this morning.

I really have been having a hard time getting work done in the studio. This happens every summer when school lets out. It’s harder to keep uninterrupted hours, especially since my studio is in the house. But also it is hard to keep creating because, well you know. But everyone has to keep on working, and this is my work. I have always found though that working with natural elements and handling sticks and nests tend to create a stillness in me. Stitching with a needle and thread into a creation created by winged creatures as they prepared their homes creates a connection between worlds. I always marvel at the paper and the structures created by both hornets and paper wasps. Incredible.

    1. thanks! I was thinking it was going to go in a show in August. Going to check with the curator. But if not august, then one in November!
