Finished this mixed media panel yesterday. The words read: I don’t have to do it alone
Originally, and in my heart, this mixed media piece was called “sisters” to represent me and my sisters. Although there would need to be another tree to truly represent us…but on this earthly world there are only three now. We used to be four.
The words reverberate in me when I think of my sisters. We carry each other when one of us has lost the strength to stand. I gather strength from these wonderful strong women that have known me since I entered this world.
I was gone last week visiting my sisters, their little ones, and my mom all the way across the country. It was pretty hectic and I didn’t get a chance to draw a tree even though I brought my sketchbook. I did take some great pictures on one of my sister’s property. She lives out in the country. Well, not really, but to me it seems like the country since I live in a city. I guess she actually lives in a suburb in Maryland that hasn’t been developed extensively. I believe there is some kind of conservation law there to prevent development sprawls in that area. Anyway…she has some wonderful trees around her house.
One rainy day there last week I told my sister that I was going to take a walk. She looked out the window and said, “but’s raining and cold out!” I answered, “I know, do have an umbrella?”
Funny how living in the Pacific Northwest, the rain is no longer seen as banishment from the outside world. It’s a part of life. I love the rain though, personally. I wish more people could see it that way. Without rain we wouldn’t have the flowers and the life that comes in spring and summer.
So with my umbrella and camera in tow I took some great photos of trees that I am sure will be shwing up in some paintings soon.
Can’t wait to get back into the swing of things. Very behind right now. I will no longer be doing a tree sketch a day…not that that ever really got started. Instead I’ll do it weekly.
