soul wanderings

This weekend we escaped to Orcas Island. We wanted to go one more time before the baby comes, so we planned this getaway a few months ago.

We had never been to the islands in the fall and it was just gorgeous with the leaves changing colors.

I couldn’t go hiking like we normally do because of my back pain and growing belly pains, but I stayed behind in the cottage that we booked and read, wrote, sketched, knitted, wandered the grounds.

It was really good for me to just be. No worries. No to-do lists looming over me. I sat and listened to the birds. I heard a rooster crow. And a falling apple scared the bejeesus out of me. So I picked it up and drew it with my colored pencils. I picked up leaves from the walkway and just let myself breathe and fill up.

Photo is of one of my journal entries while I was there. Being in nature always invigorates me and inspires.

The sun shines not on us but in us. The rivers flow not past, but through us, thrilling, tingling, vibrating every fiber and cell of the substance of our bodies, making them glide and sing. ~John Muir
