This piece is small but mighty. The image was from a photo I took the last time I was at Mt. Rainier in Washington. There’s something about these trees that just feels like the trees are standing firm and stating something. Testament can be defined as proof or declaration or agreement. I added a piece of salvaged rusted metal. I often think about how we forget that so many of the materials that are manufactured come from the earth. And rust forming on the metal is already showing the process of returning it to the earth. I love to add industrial metal to scenes from nature, bringing together what are often seen as separate worlds, integrating the dualties around us and within.

Today is the deadline for the delivery of a list and images of all the work that will be in my March show at Gallery Blue Door in Baltimore. When this past week started I had one painting that was almost done, one that I knew what I wanted to do in my head, and one that I wasn’t sure I was going to mess with to make it better or just leave it out. I finished all three this week and actually finished two of them yesterday. Then I had to title and take photos, get them into my records and then finish up my list to send to the gallery and triple check to make sure everything was right, and then send.
My inventory list had 19 paintings on it, 9 of them with the year 2026 in the description, two of which I finished yesterday. I hit send a little past 6 pm. Then I went to order pizzas for dinner and just stared at the computer with that blank brain stare. And I forgot to order toppings! Anyway, I’m tired. But happy and grateful for my upcoming show. I hung up all the paintings in my studio and lined them against the wall just to see how they all flow together. I am really looking forward to seeing them hung next month.
