I created a few pieces for Lark and Key’s Nocturnal exhibit that opens tomorrow, September 1st at noon. When I first started thinking about this show I was thinking of nocturnal nature themes, but nothing seemed very inspiring to me. But then I started turning to my dreams and I became excited to turn on the wax in the middle of the very hot summer days here in Maryland.
A couple years ago I had a dream of white stag that seemed enjoined somehow with a big white tree and all the plants around him, like the deer and the environment around him were all one living being. And the stag just stared at me, sort of challenging me or admonishing me, I’m really unsure. I have no idea what my dream meant but it was so clear. I often have really non-consequential dreams, but every once in a while, a dream will be so clear and just stay with me. This was one of them.
I’m excited that this piece is part of the Nocturnal exhibit along with a few others. I’ll post those soon.
This is beautiful, Bridgette! It reminds me of the energy of Hayao Miyazaki’s Forest Spirit in Spirited Away. Evocative, primal, sacred, and wise. I’m really enjoying discovering your artwork. A friend on Instagram linked to you and I’m glad to have crossed paths with you.
Hi Janece, thank you so much for coming to this little corner of mine and for your comment. I so appreciate you comparing my creation to the energy of Spirited Away! That means so much. Thank you.
