Last night after dinner was eaten and dishes were done and my little guy was tucked away to sleep, the last thing I wanted to do was tackle my to-do list. But it was necessary and I’m glad I got photographing some of my paintings off the list. My most dreaded task. I had photographed the above painting before, but it was terrible. I really can’t shortcut and not set up properly, which I had done on the previous attempt to photograph recent paintings. It’s just aggravating and a big waste of time when I do that. This painting will be hanging at Irwin’s at the end of this week and I really needed to document it and put in my records along with some other paintings before I hang. So it had to get done.

I actually created this painting a few months ago for an Inspire Me Thursday prompt of “roots”. But it didn’t feel quite right, so I never submitted it. I worked on it again this month when I got back into the studio after my trip and completed it. I wish I had taken pictures of this piece in different stages of its development as it went through many, many incarnations. I am really happy though that I stuck it out and didn’t ditch it as I wanted to a few times!

Today, mine and Noah’s task is to buy candy and to go to Daniel Smith’s and buy some encaustic medium. I have a 20% off coupon which will be very helpful. I’m looking forward to Noah’s first Halloween. He’s going to be a clown! We got him a rainbow colored wig and we’re just going to dress him in some of his mismatched very colorful clothes. I am sure the wig is not going to stay on very long, but he looks very cute with it on. I’ve been getting photos from friends of their babies in their first Halloween outfits and they are all so cute in teddy bear outfits, a flower, a hershey kiss…and then there’s Noah looking like a crazy clown. We’re not going trick or treating, just answering the door to the goblins begging for candy. And it looks like it’s going to be a dry night~ just perfect!

  1. REALLY nice work! I’m adding you to the art blogs I read on my blog.. yeah, I’m an artist too. Found you through your comment on Karen’s blog. Looking forward to seeing what you’re up to.

  2. This is beautiful as always! I bet your little guy looked SO adorable. I really admire you getting so much done with a baby in the house. I know how hard it can be!

  3. I admire your persistence and am inspired by it too. I have way too many things in various states of “not-so-doneness”! What keeps you going at it? How is it that you don’t just shelve something and abandon it?

  4. Thank you all for your comments. I really appreciate them.

Paula-I think it’s my inability to let things go! Which is usually not a good quality to have. But in this case, if a painting is just not quite right, and even if it’s out of sight, it still takes up a little corner in my mind. Sometimes it’s quiet, but sometimes it has a nagging voice which I know eventually I will need to do something to quiet it down. I always need to have that feeling that you get when you know something is done. That “click” feeling, if you know what I mean. I don’t know how else to describe it!

  5. Hi Bridgette – Are you a member of the IEA? When I saw your encaustic work I thought you might be. If not, I think there might be a local group in your area. Robin
