passage of time, encaustic, 12×12 inches

So you wouldn’t believe it, but this encaustic painting started out with a beautiful black and white photocopy transfer of a nest. It was a perfect transfer, I was so happy with it. But as I started working on the piece, it just wasn’t working for me at all.

And although I was kind of bummed about wasting a perfect transfer, I am so happier with the fern in its place. Sometimes it’s better for me not to force something that just doesn’t belong. The lesson is knowing when to let expectations go.
