The Spaces Between

Nothing is less real than realism. It’s only by selection, elimination, emphasis, that we get at the real meanings of things. ~Georgia O’Keefe

Hope everyone had a nice holiday. I am feeling at a bit of a loss for words, perhaps because this time of year is so over the top. It’s not that it’s not fun, because with very little kids in the house, it is fun and magical. But there is a need to wind down, for me at least. Feeling the need for some quiet time.

Since I started this blog I have always done a recap of the year and also looking into the next. It helps me figure things out…..hopefully I can get to that. But like I said, feeling like my lips are sewn up.

So for now, I just have to say that this was a challenging year and I am just happy that I showed up when I could and created what needed to come out. Sometimes things that sound like such a simple accomplishment are the biggest hurdle.

Today I have some studio time and I plan to clean, toss, organize, finish up some dangling projects and actually paint a bit.

My goal is to strip things down so that you need just the right amount of words or shape to convey what you need to convey. I like editing. I like it very tight. ~Maya Lin

Been thinking a lot about simplifying things- life, home, relationships, perspective…everything.

  1. Bri …this… “I showed up when I could and created what needed to come out” … could be, SHOULD be, every artist’s mantra. So. Very. Deep.

Big hugs to you girlie. xo

  2. I feel the same, Bridgette, the quiet time is so very important … I cannot function without certain amounts! What Jen said is right on, too, this should be something we keep in mind at all times ~ show up when you can and create what needs to come out.
Sounds like your holidays were very good, just keep unwinding.

  3. Your artwork speaks volumes so no need for words! Hoping that 2012 brings you happiness, health, creativity, adventure, and peace (and maybe another one of your amazing collaborations)!

  4. I know exactly how you feel about needing quiet time at this time of the year and am trying to cocoon a bit to restore balance. Your Spaces Between is a beautiful and really speaks to me. Wishing you and your family all the best for 2012 Bridgette.
