Corridor, mixed media, 8 x 5 3/4 inches

Finished up this panel yesterday. Just wanted to play around with creating a rough, aged, earthy texture. Using antiquing solutions is fun. Although I never know what I’m going to get. But I guess that’s the best part of it. It’s a very organic process in that it does it’s own thing until you stop it by brushing on a layer of gel medium.
I took this photo up in the San Juans. It’s an old corroded door to a mining shaft. I think it was a limestone site. I can’t remember. I wanted to recreate the crumble of stone and metal that surrounded this rusty door. This will be a journal cover…eventually. Hopefully sooner than later.

The words around the door read:
I’ve wandered this labyrinth of me, crawled through the dark corridors, hidden in forgotten corners, smashed my fist through dead ends…
