home

My mom left yesterday morning. My husband came home, in the morning as well after a successful summit to the top of Mt. Ranier! He had been gone since Monday. And did the summit on Thursday morning. I saw some video footage that he was able to take at the top. It was insane. He had ice frozen on his head lamp. I’m glad I didn’t see the video until after the summit. I am so very proud of him. My mountain man.

My mom is my savior! We packed, cleaned, organized, and got the house ready. This is not an easy feat with a very active one and half year old. But we did it. Thursday afternoon the photographer came and did such a great job. I love that I have these great photos to remind me of our house that we loved and lived in for the past 4 years. I also want to bring in the same vibrancy into our next house, which is a bit austere.

I need color in my life!

This is what my Mom and I were up to this week:

kitchen1
My most favorite part of our house these past 4 years, the kitchen.

The art on the island was painted by the previous owner, also an artist. We didn’t want to paint over it. I think it was a story of their life together. Molly and Phil. Believe me, the counters were never this bare! I was really reluctant to pack away all my kitchen tools and gear, but I knew it would be better if I did.

living room, never looks this clean and uncluttered!

I love this house. As you can see, I have a lot of art up the walls and I feel that it brings life to the house. I can’t imagine a house without art and books everywhere. There would be no soul! I had even more stuff up, but I had to pack up most of it. Actually more than half of our belongings are already packed and away in storage, waiting to be moved to Chicago. We also have garden art, but they didn’t take pictures of that. I just hope the right person walks into this house next week. And I hope the next owner doesn’t paint over the kitchen. That would break my heart.

We got engaged, married, had a baby in this house. It’ll be hard to say goodbye. But the memories will come with us. And now I have photos of a clean and uncluttered house! I have a few more photos up on my flickr.

I am really behind in emails and getting back to people. I will try to get to that as soon as I can!

  1. Congratulations Matt! What an awesome feat. I love your house! We’re just getting ready to work on our back yard and I envisioned something similar to what you created in your yard. It’s wonderful.

  2. Bridgette – How wonderful to get a little glimpse into your home & your life (what a HUSBAND!). When you said you want to bring the same vibrancy into your next house, I had to smile. Just an hour ago I began the book “Chocolat”. I’ve seen the movie umpteen times, but never read the book. Anyway, I was particularly taken with what Vianne says about their new home. She’s describing all the things she knows it will become – its vibrancy – to her daughter & then says to herself that she knows it will take work to make it real. But, she says ” . . . for the moment it is enough to know the house welcomes us, as we welcome it.” I’m sure your next house is eagerly awaitng your arrival & the chance to strut its stuff. Congratulations!

    Love, Debi

  3. Its so nice to know that there are artists that will purchase the home of another artist and not paint over the art. Thumbing our noses at the realtors that tell us to paint all the walls white. We need color in our lives. Thanks for sharing! Will miss you!

  4. Wow! I LOVE the colors in your house!! I would have been reluctant to paint over that kitchen artwork as well. Everything is just lovely, Bridgette. And woo hoo, Matt!
    Hugs, Shari

  5. Wow! I love that kitchen! I love the colors! Color can be such a vibrant thing to surround yourself with. It’s kind of an enigma that people are afraid of color in our hemisphere of the world.
Glad that Matt made it back home without a hitch.

  6. Gorgeous house! I too have a Brian Andreas Storyperson hanging up in my house. My walls are all very colorful. A neighbor once said he feels like he hears jazz music when he walks into my house because it is so colorful. Art and color are so necessary 🙂

  7. Wow, that was a great post! I love your painting in the kitchen, too, I would never have painted over it. I’ve moved a bunch of times, and it’s never easy, but it does present a new house/canvas at the new one! Good job on the art show, too!
I totally agree on the art/books thing for the house..
