Yesterday I spent the day in Patricia Seggebruch’s studio with six other artists painting away. Trish invited us to her studio for a painting party and potluck dinner. I will have to look everyone up later and see if they have web sites that I can link to. It was me, Trish, Karon Leigh, Roben, Sue Robertson, Anissa Weber, Binky Bergsman, and Wendy Lee from Whidbey Island. It was a lot of fun and really good for me to be there. All of us were working in encaustics except for Sue Robertson who was working in acrylics and Karon Leigh who was working in collage and oil pastels. They both work in encaustics, just not yesterday.

I started many encaustic pieces. That was my goal for the day was to just get pieces started. But I did manage to finish up 2 pieces that just needed some extra work on. I even brought a large piece that was almost done and was able to finish that one as well. This piece is actually one that I started and finished. I have been wanting to do some pieces in which the birch beneath is part of the piece. I think wood grain can be so beautiful.
It is so amazing to see how different everyone’s work is. The same medium but totally different outcomes. The best thing about yesterday was the camaraderie. That is one thing that I miss by working alone in my studio. The relationships you create when you are working along side someone else. The women at Trisha’s gathering were all such strong, creative and vibrant women. It was a great day.
Trish and I had arranged for a trade last time I saw her. So now I have an original Patricia Seggebruch! Actually, it’s three- a triptych that she joined together. I will have to take a picture later and post. I love it so so much.
I am still not being allowed to comment on other blogs or even on my own! So I am not ignoring comments, I just can’t reply. Very frustrating. I don’t know how to fix it either.
Ahhh, I’m jealous. I’ve wanted to go to one of her open studio days but getting up there is difficult. I love the encaustis work you’re doing. Including the birch panel as part of the composition is interesting.
