
The world is still nuts, so I’m still painting landscapes. Actually, for this one, repainting. I had first painted this scene, inspired by hike down in the southwest corner of Virgina, in 2024. The original painting can be seen here.
The original painting was pretty true to my photo of the hike. But I felt like it was a little dark. And honestly for my landscape paintings, I don’t really want them to be true to the image. I want it to be looser, more colorful, more blocks of color. So the other week when I pulled out my oils again, I started with repainting this painting and I love it so much more. It’s probably a more subtle difference than I think.
