I created this journal entry last night using a print out of a painting I made in 2006. I have dedicated myself to using up stuff I have laying around in all my little bins and drawers. I used to use the little sign language blocks in my collages, but not anymore. So, in they went. I have a bunch of postage stamps that I don’t know what to do with, so in the little bird stamp went. And the ripped dictionary page- that actually was just like that, tucked into a bin. I never throw anything out. Even scraps of torn paper.

This is why I need to use my stuff up. It’s a bit too much. Also my style has changed, and I don’t use a lot of it anymore. But I don’t want to throw it away.

I needed to document this quote yesterday as it is something I need to keep in mind. And I wanted to create something for it, not just write it down in my journal.

quote reads:
” …what I focus on in life is what I get. And if I concentrate on how bad I am or how wrong I am or how inadequate I am, if I concentrate on what I can’t do and how there’s not enough time in which to do it, isn’t that what I get every time? And when I think about how powerful I am, and when I think about what I have left to contribute, and when I think about the difference I can make on this planet, then that’s what I get. You see, I recognize that it’s not what happens to you; it’s what you do about it.” ~ W. Mitchell

  1. Thanks! This is a wonderful way to use up stuff…of which I also have too much! Using old books for sketchbooks is also a decent idea! I keep thinking of one I might use for a studio reference!

    Thanks for this blog!

    Congratulations on the publishing.

  2. Great quote. And a wonderful journal page.

I have a feeling we have very similar stashes of stuff, and the same habit of keeping everything. Every once in a while I try to use it up, but it seems to multiply when I’m not looking. 🙂

  3. awesome journal page. I find collages that are of just random stuff facinating. You know what they say…. other people’s stuff is always so very much more interesting than your own. I adore those sign language collage pieces. Where did you get them? they are awesome.
