Intentions: An intention is a directed impulse of consciousness that contains the seed form of that which you aim to create. Like real seeds, intentions can’t grow if you hold on to them. Only when you release your intentions into the fertile depths of your consciousness can they grow and flourish.

I love how writings about intentions always use the metaphor of the seed which needs to be let go into the world. Not necessarily to just let the intention go into the wind, although I think that is helpful; but rather laid down and nurtured. If you read the article linked above though, it emphasizes letting go of a desired outcome and opening up to all the possibilities and letting it unfold.

Through the years I have thought of my tree images in my works as self- portraits. I have always just had a very strong connection to trees since I was young. And they’ve come to mean a variety of things to me- rootedness, life giving, strength in the face of adversity, life source, time keepers…. But now I’m also starting to see them as that metaphor for intentions and the unfolding possibilities that comes from that tiny seed, hard shelled or winged. It is such a strong visual for me to think of a strong towering tree, like say an old Sycamore in its full white and silver glory, as the manifestation of an intention. That’s pretty powerful.
