It’s been a bit of time since I’ve been in the studio. I had a little bit of time in the studio today, so I decided to work on the demo boards that I made in my last workshop to show various techniques. Easier to ease back into work with things already started. This piece I showed the class how to add a printed image onto a board with the nest image, and how to create texture with stencils, on the bottom, and how to use carbon paper to draw or write on top of the wax surface with the alphabet letters above the nest. Today I developed all those parts more and then I added the flower at the top.

I have been thinking a lot about the whole conundrum of parenting lately. How from the very beginning of the arrival of that new little helpless baby, your role as a parent to care for them by providing safety and nourishment, which comes in many various forms. All the days blend into weeks, then months and years of providing a foundation for that once helpless baby to be a fully functioning human all on their own. And then that day comes and it’s so hard to let go without sadness.

Yes, I just dropped my oldest off at collage for his second year. And my youngest is about to become a junior in high school. I remember when they were little and strangers would tell me, enjly them, it goes by fast. And I would be like, yeah yeah yeah. But it is so true.
