While I was working on the small oil paintings of fruit, I have been working on two large oil paintings. This was one of them. A couple of weeks ago I was working on an old landscape painting that had always bothered me a bit, trying to rework it. And then I ended up covering the whole thing up with light pink paint. I posted about that frustrating day in the studio on my IG.
I hung up that pink painting on my studio wall. I pulled out this photo I took during a hike on the Appalachian Trail that I always loved and started mixing some greens and started covering up the pink. I actually really liked when it was the green and pink and fairly still abstracted. It was a hint of a landscape and flowers. I liked the looseness of it.
But I kept going. And that exploration led me to this painting.
I still think about the abstracted looseness of the beginnings of this painting. hmmmm.
But I love that this painting captures that moment on the trail hiking and I stopped to look out on the mountains and I was surrounded by wild rhododendrons.
