I’m not sure when my love of old things began. Maybe it was my early childhood years in a house that was built in the 1850s. Maybe it was going to antique stores with my mom in Old Town Alexandria when I was young and begging her to buy me an old white and blue quilt when I was only 10. I mean, really? As an adult I actually don’t have antiques in my home, my taste tends toward more contemporary mixed with earthy. However for my artwork- I love bringing in the old. And where does one find old? Yard sales and estate sales.

I love the hunt for old and interesting things. I won’t ever buy things online although I know I could probably get some pretty interesting things that way. I need to be there, feel it, hold it in my hands. I discovered this old wood level at a recent estate sale and I knew I had to have it. For what? I had no idea. There was another item there that I really should have gotten, but I put it back on the table and I think about it all the time! Lesson learned- just get it.
