One of the last art related things that I had on my to-do list before Grace was born was to submit work to the Luminous Layers:Exploring Contemporary Encaustic exhibit that was to take place in Lake Oswego, Oregon. I saw it as my last hurrah, or at least my last hurrah for a while. I had already been putting things into place to have things slow down for me art-wise. And so I was so excited a few months later to hear that the piece above was accepted into the show which is taking place this weekend.

47th Annual
Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts
Event dates: June 25, 26 & 27 2010
Lake Oswego, Oregon

A description of the encaustic exhibit:
Luminous Layers
Exploring Contemporary Encaustic

The 47th Annual Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts presents as its cornerstone exhibit Luminous Layers: Exploring Contemporary Encaustic, the most comprehensive exhibit of encaustic paintings and sculpture assembled in the Pacific Northwest. Encaustic is one of the oldest forms of painting where beeswax, resin and pigment are layered and fused to produce a luminous surface that captures and transforms light. Nationally recognized artists melt, layer, scrape, and sculpt, creating their visions in wax. Lectures, displays, and demonstrations featuring some of these leading artists will explore the techniques of this art form throughout the three-day Festival.

Unfortunately I won’t be attending the show, but I will be there in spirit! Or at least through friends’ updates on Facebook and their art blogs. I am so honored too that the image above was chosen as the poster for the exhibit.

  1. I am also sorry to miss this show– I was just down there in Portland as I took a workshop on encaustic monoprint– I love wax layers and then inking them and putting them through a press was doubly intriguing. I love your encaustic here.

  2. How Lovely and how lovely *for* you….

Stumbled on your blog through “Good Morning Mary Sunshine” and so glad I did….what a treat…(love the quotes on your sidebar as well…good for my soul…)

Congratulations on your show and your beautiful piece seeing the light of day….
