“To be whole. To be complete. Wildness reminds us what is to be human, what we are connected to rather than what we are separate from.” – Terry Tempest Williams
I saw this quote and just had to save it. I created this piece during a space of worry, you know those days. But in the creating of it and in turning to nature as my inspiration I was able to find peace. Always grateful for my creative practice.
For years I have incorporated stitched elements and thread in my mixed media works as way to convey mending and healing and piecing together. Connections, fragments brought together to make a whole. There is also a reference to domestic handiwork that is often overlooked as unimportant, especially in our modern age. But for eons human hands have been stitching together pieces of this and that for necessity as well as for decoration.
I love to sew and feel very happy when I’m in front of my sewing machine. I’m no seamstress but I like to mess around with sewing old fabric to make something new. I hope to get better at it, just need to find the time to do it more often.
