of the earth

I finally wrote and sent out my amanobooks.com newsletter today. I wrote about Garden Journals. I’ve always wanted to keep one, but never have. So I’m going to give it a go this year. I have a crazy flower garden in the front of the house. I love it, but I can’t take all the credit for it. The owner of the house before us was an amazing gardener and an artist too! So I try to give it justice and add bits of myself to it slowly.

I found some good quotes for gardening today that I thought also related to art.

Gardeners , like everyone else, live second by second and minute by minute. What we see at one particular moment is then and there before us. But there is a second way of seeing. Seeing with the eye of memory, not the eye of our anatomy, calls up days and seasons past and years gone by.
~Allen Lacy, The Gardener’s Eye

These are tulips that grow on the side of the house. I am sure no one even notices them because they are so demure, especially compared to the raucous burst of color in the front garden. But I love these. They look so wistful.

Gardening is the art that uses flowers and plants as paint, and the soil and sky as canvas. ~ Elizabeth Murray

I have never had so many good ideas day after day as when I worked in the garden.

  1. they could be lilies! I thought they were tulips, but I could be wrong! I’m trying to learn all the names of the flowers in my garden. So it would be good for me to go look it up.

  2. hi bri!
i love how you write and you’ve inspired me to get back to gardening again with your last comment – do you really get lots of ideas when you garden? I can imagine – i can think of many artists that garden. i need to find my way back to it…..
