I’ve been thinking a lot about memory. How they shape who we are, how we behave, how we feel. What happens when they start to slip away? Why do certain memories keep resurfacing?
The top part of this panel was an ecoprint I made several years ago. I believe the leaves were from my smoke bush and then the really light ones were from ferns. One day I would love to have a garden where I deliberately plant things for ecodying. I guess I could do it now. I did plant my smokebush for that purpose when we first moved to our current house. It’s maddening how fast times go by and then I’m like, oops, there goes another planting season, next year! Although it is fall…I should probably plant something.
I love the combo of the ecoprint with the encaustic medium. The wax layer gives an etheral feeling which to me emphasizes the ephemeral feeling already conveyed by the ecoprints. The bottom part is a collaged paper from a hornet’s nest gifted to me by a generous artist friend. There are still pieces of bark attached to the paper, which you can see on the bottom corners.
I made this piece this past month and thought maybe I still needed to add something else to it. But I feel like it’s complete. I framed it up last week. It can be found in my online shop
