silhouette, mixed media on wood, 9×12

I started this piece a while ago with the intent of playing with textures. I had it sitting on my easel for a few days as I felt that it wasn’t quite done yet. After the Golden Workshop and after my purchase of fine pumice gel, I decided to give it a try. I had used beeswax to adhere my tree image to the wood, and felt that if I could get the gel to look like encaustic then it would add a cohesiveness to the entire piece.

So I added the gel gingerly as I had never used it before and when it dried, I was happy with the result. Next time I will be more liberal with it. The effect needs to be seen in person though. The limitations of the computer screen! Ah well.
