I made this piece sometime this year. I never posted it, not sure why. I love the soulful look on the owl’s face. I had this wood slab cookie for a while and I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with it. I didn’t want to paint on the surface and cover up all that beautiful grain and what looks like delicate line work. I ended up creating this little owl vignette on plaster cloth encased in encaustic. I sewed on a rusted metal ring for the owl sit upon. And then I simply attached the cloth to the wood with two little black tacks.
I really do wonder what story those delicate lines in the wood’s rings are telling. I don’t have the ability to read it. However, I do feel like they are a testament to something.
I have had a rough start to December. A root canal this past Monday has left my face looking like I was in a fight- swollen and bruised. I also caught a cold, which is not a big deal in and of itself. Except that every time I cough, my jaw kills. sigh….
There’s a lot to do as a an artist/micro business in December, and in the best of years I can barely keep up. With all this extracurricular health stuff, I’m just going to go with the flow and do the best I can.
I do have some local shows coming up, which I will post about here and hopefully get on my newsletter soon. Hopefully the bruising and chipmunk cheek will be gone by then!
But I currently have work in these galleries, which can also be viewed and purchased online:
Lark & Gallery in Charlotte, NC
Higher Art Gallery in Traverse City, MI
RH Ballard Gallery in Washington, VA
My Online Shop, which also includes a curated section of other makers and artists
Fine Art America provides prints of selected works
