Do I explain what I mean by the title of this piece? Might be that my title is a little lofty for a simple abandoned nest. But these are the thoughts that run through head and a thread that has run through my life. Maybe I’ll just back it up with a quote from Martin Luther King, Jr:

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing for others?”

And from Enrique Salmon, author and professor of American Indian Studies in the Department of Ethnic Studies at Cal State University East Bay:

“I want to be the kind of ancestor who is known by the Earth as a friend and a relative. I want the Earth to hear the songs that I sing to it… I want the Earth feel my kinship when I take time to teach others how to develop a relationship with a landscape and to behave as a good caring relative. I believe that the Earth is a living being.”
