Cotyledon | Shop Talk 2 and Brumation

I currently have work in a Goxxip Girl Collective show in an art space called Cotyledon Gallery that is adjacent to Dear Globe Coffee in Baltimore. It’ll be up until the first week of January I believe. If you’re local, be sure to check the hours before heading over. This is a second show in the Shop Talk series. Last month a different group of artists from the collective hung their work up.

I actually helped install the show, which was the first time I’ve hung a show. In all these years I guess I have been fortunate to just handover the artwork to the gallery or other people. Two other collective members , Samantha Sethi and Kathy Marmor, were there to hang the show and they showed me the ropes. So much math!! Good grief. Not calculus or anything, but still! They also showed me the thought process of thinking about visual flow and rhythm when hanging work from different artists up. That is what is lovely about a collective- everyone bringing in their experiences and working together.

The Goxxip Girl Collective has a big group show opening this weekend at School 33 Art Center! If you are local, I hope you can make it. I didn’t help hang this show and I can’t wait to see it Friday night’s opening reception! I have five pieces in Brumation. And in case you don’t know what brumation means, as I didn’t, it has to do with hibernation-like behavior. Honestly, this week I have been feeling so tired that I’d like to contemplate hibernation-like behavior.

The Goxxip Girl Collective is excited to announce Brumation, an exhibition reflecting on stasis; on view at School 33 Art Center. Our preoccupation with stimulation and instant gratification in an accelerated world – an adherence to a 12-month calendar year, a 7-day work week and a 9 to 5 schedule – has prompted an investigation into our compromised relationship with nature. Drawing on the biological phenomenon of brumation – hibernation-like behavior observed in certain reptiles – this collection of works explores themes of dormancy, survival, the symbiotic relationships between environment(s) and organism(s), and the perpetual tension between consciousness and unconsciousness. Brumation investigates cyclical patterns in nature, the transformative processes of rest and renewal, and the disillusionment surrounding the human experience.

Celebrate the opening Reception of Brumation and the upcoming Winter Solstice, on Friday, December 20th from 6PM to 9PM at School 33 – located at 1427 Light St.
