Weathering, take two

Bridgette Guerzon Mills |Weathering, encaustic mixed media on salvaged wood, 8 5/16 x 7 3/4 inches.

I have mentioned before that I have a tendency to work on pieces if they come back to me. I’m on the fence on whether that’s a good thing or bad thing. But I am who I am. This piece came back to me and I decided to add another piece of wood to it jut to make it a little bigger. It is still a small piece, but it is bigger.

The salvaged wood that was added on and that was also the substrate of the original painting came from wood that I saved when we were renovating our old house. I love the color and grain and the marks on these pieces of old wood. They really don’t make them like they used to. And as always, I love to use materials that would have ended up filling up a landfill. We need to love this Earth. Storms and weather patterns seem intense and severe lately. Or conversely, winter not happening like they used to because it’s too warm. Lots of flooding in different parts of the country. Sigh….

Is anyone else feeling weathered these days or is it just me? It adds character, right? Right?
